FOOD WASTE BINS AT DISTRICT OFFICE
THE DISTRICT OFFICE HAS FOOD WASTE BINS AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTS TO USE- California Senate Bill (SB) 1383 requires all residents, businesses, and multi-family properties to recycle all organic waste, including food waste, paper, cardboard, yard waste. The law aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting the amount of organic waste sent to landfills through collection of material and recovery of edible food. When organic material is landfilled, it breaks down and produces methane, a potent greenhouse gas (GHG).
Approximately on October 1st of 2022 the District food waste curbside collection goes into effect. Currently, residents are not required to recycle their food waste at home. However, we encourage food waste prevention practices and composting. Prior to October 1st food waste bins are located at the District office for those residents that want to participate in the food waste recycling program.
